The Graphic Designer Resume – Creative Layout Re-Design

Evan Munoz Graphic Design Resume 2020 - Long Island New York

A lot has changed since 2014… that was the year I decided to redo my Graphic Design Resume in a style that fit my career of choice.  I wrote about creating a project like this and showed my influences – Check out the blog post here “Creative Graphic Design Resumes…

Here in 2020 I decided that I need to update my resume for various reasons, one being I became older and my photo was a younger version of myself.  Along with that photo update, I wanted to re-design the layout to be able to fit more jobs and experiences on that standard 8.5″ x 11″ piece of printer paper found in most offices that are hiring people, not  robots… I’ve never worked at one of those and don’t know what paper dimensions they use.

It was time the 2014 layout needed a change for 2020, below is the before and after.

Before (2014):

GIANT! Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Control

Giant NES Nintendo Entertainment System Control ~ For Rent ~ Long Island, New York ~ East Coast US

As a “youth”, I have always wanted a Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), I remember going to a family friend’s house when I was younger to play “Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt” it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. Then in 2019 I would see on Instagram various forms of the NES system popping up at events or Comic-Cons, I guess I wasn’t the only “youth” obsessed with Nintendo in the late 1990’s. After seeing so much inspiration I decided to create my own entertainment piece to showcase the knowledge I have acquired with my 29 years of experience on this planet. I drew up a single design with a certain understanding of what people wanted when at a superior party in New York. I collected fragments of recorded memories inside my brain from working with entertainment companies like Creative Games Inc. in Hicksville, Long Island. I designed a Giant LED Functional Nintendo (NES) Control. Using experience from working at companies like Surface Grooves in Oyster Bay, Long Island as a Custom Fabricator, I had an understanding of how to assemble, paint and prepare wood elements for visual center pieces at events. I used websites like Instructables to get a better understanding of how to create the object I desired.

I then purchased various parts I needed, for the buttons I used a USB Joy Stick Board you would use to build a retro arcade unit.  Then I used a series of bolts and springs for the larger buttons to hit the smaller buttons and bounce back.  I then painted the MDF wood , ordered thick cut plexi and got a friend to slice vinyl up for finishing touches.  When dark, I pop two 30 watt LED lights in there for that illuminated Legend of the Hidden Temple look…

Here is the final product that had it’s premier debut at Munoz-Stock (Hosted By The Muckrakers) 2019 at Station Sports in Huntington, Long Island. Designed and produced by Evan Muñoz (Aka Uncle Skuby).

Visit Munoz Stock Rentals for more info about how to rent my GIANT Nintendo Control for that special occasion… because other wise it will just sit in my tiny apartment…

Available to rent for Bar or Bat Mitzvahs, Communions, Confirmations, Sweet 16’s, Quinceañeras, Weddings, Bridal Showers, Bachelor or Bachelorette Parties, Graduations, House Parties, Concerts, Birthday Parties, etc. on Long Island, New York.

Or if you just want me to build you one or a different game system, I’m down – Let’s build!

MSE: Show On The Go! // Hosted by The Muckrakers + Joey Bosco

Show On The Go Hosted By The Muckrakres ~ Long Island, New York

Munoz Stockin’ Events (MSE) is a branch of Munoz Stock, a company founded by my brother’s band, The Muckrakers and me, Evan Munoz. Munoz Stockin’ Events (MSE) produces local Long Island Music / Art / Video Game parties and gatherings. We put together these events to keep current with the Long Island community year round leading up to our larger event Munoz-Stock, a Music + Art + Video Game Festival currently being held at Station Sports in Huntington Long Island.

In light of the global situation in 2020 MSE like many, turned to a more virtual approach to hold events. The first online concert series we came up with is called Show On The Go! Our first episode aired live May, 23rd 2020 on Munoz-Stock’s Facebook page, we had 6 live performers from bands on the East Coast. Show On The Go! also featured a live Digital Artist that painted during the event in Adobe Photoshop using a drawing tablet. The Munoz-Stock team also created 2 skits, one was a Mortal Kombat 11 battle between Shanon Munoz and Joey Bosco, the other was mock Zoom Workout skit including Joey Bosco + The Muckrakers + Evan Munoz. To help support local Long Island Bars that have supported Munoz-Stock over the years, we directed viewers to One Eye Jacks in Bethpage multiple ways during the event to promote their new takeout menu. The show was a great success with over 2.5k viewers over the 3 hour event. The MSE team will be continuing to produce Show On The Go! on a monthly basis to keep connected with the local Long Island Music and Art Scene during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.

I’m excited to see this platform grow because it is a great way of showcasing the local talent there is out here on Long Island. This is a perfect project to combine multiple skill sets for a Marketing Graphic Designer like myself, Evan Munoz. To promote growth on this channel and create a highly polished show I had to exercise use of StreamYard, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Adobe Rush and Digital Marketing best practices. I am looking forward to producing more Show On The Go! Episodes with The Muckrakers/Munoz-Stock Team and Actor Joey Bosco from Los Angeles.

Sketch N’ Chill Feat. Beer (Meetup)

I had been attending Meetups for a couple of years ranging from Programming, Art Professionals, Networking, Board Games, and even Engineering Meetups.  Having enjoyed gathering with like minded people, I decided to create a Meetup of my own on Long Island.

The Meetup I created is called Sketch N’ Chill Feat. Beer.  We gather Bi-Weekly at The Republic Pub in Farmingdale on Long Island.  It’s a great event for artists to get a chance to network and get some art done with like minded people.  Occasionally we have breakouts at Museums or Figure Drawing events.  I enjoy the community that has began to grow only after a year of existence.

One Eye Jacks Open Jams

One Eye Jacks Open Jams was a bi-weekly Open Mic created by me Evan Muñoz. I was asked by the owner of One Eye Jacks for weekly event ideas.

I came up with 2 ideas, one of which incorporated their convenient Jello-Shot Machine (“Battle Shots”) and a board game night I would have posted on my Meetup account. Second idea was an Open Mic for DJs since the owner of the bar also owned a DJ business.

The owner went with the Open Mic idea, but for all musicians not limiting to DJs. For about a year I ran One Eye Jacks Open Jams with featured local acts from Long Island. We had full live bands, comedians and even iguanas come through to One Eye Jacks Open Jams.

We still host shows at One Eye Jacks to this day – Munoz-Stockin’ Events

Photographer / Videographer in the Making

The past couple weeks as I began to scroll through my Facebook feed, I realized that a good majority of my friends are musicians. Being that they are musically inclined and I have a NEW Canon Rebel T6i from Christmas time, I decided to take on some event photography and learn my camera. In that I am learning there was A LOT of retouching that needed to be done to make these photos look presentable, but I did manage to take some cool shots!

Multi-Eyed Mutant Chicken

So as I had a little time to myself this March, I decided to take one of my drawings and turn it into an animation. But! I took it a step further. Due to my lack of Adobe After Effects on my computer, I tried to use an OLD version of Adobe Flash CS5 to create this animation… God I need a copy of After Effects 😦

I sketched out this guy bored one day on this private beach on Long Island:

Then I digitally painted this on my Wacom Intuos Pro tablet in Autodesk’s SketchBook Express:

Last I created some clouds in Affinity Designer and animated this guy in Adobe Flash, I think I messed up in rendering somewhere – might need to look that up, but it came out okay for my testing:

Game Design of Monument Valley by ustwo | M.C. Escher Style iOS Game

I’m sure if you’ve been on the internet recently you have heard about this iOS game called Monument Valley by ustwo.  This game features beautifully designed illustrations of impossible structures, that are reminiscent of the artist M.C. Escher’s work.  You play as a lost princes wandering through these structures to find a way out.  This game is beautifully designed anyone with an interest in art or design should play this game!

Check out some screen shots of the game along with some prototype sketches below:

The Muckraker’s Punk Sticker | Digital Illustration via Wacom Tablet | By Evan Munoz

I recently got a Wacom tablet this passed holiday season and instantly fell in love with this device!  If you haven’t tried one of these guys, you need to ASAP! As you can see from in my gallery I do a lot of work for The Muckrakers for my brother.  When I think of Punk Rock I think of grunge, and dirt. So I used dirty paper textures in the background to give it that feel.

Let me know what you think in the comments below.
